The Leisure World Computer Center, Inc is an operational Non-Profit 501(c)(3) business and not just a club as most organizations are in Leisure World and is operated 100% by volunteers. To be successful it is very important to have the right Board Members who are the heartbeat of the organization.

Being a Board Member will require a fair amount of time, commitment, energy, effort, and willingness to go the extra mile. The Leisure World Computer Center, Inc. is only as good as the quality of individual volunteers. Given the need to have the right Board Members in place the following set of Requirements and Highly Desirable qualifications have been established.

Required
  • Willingness to Learn
  • Willingness to dedicate about 15-25 hours per month
  • Team Player with strong interpersonal skills to interact with other Board Members, Volunteers and Guests in a professional manner
  • Able to work independently when needed
  • Strategic and problem-solving skills
  • Negotiation skills - Must be able to ask tough questions, make recommendations and to disagree with others without alienating themselves from other Board Members or being viewed as someone who is generally disagreeable
  • Must take responsibility for the opinions and recommendations they make
  • Available to attend Monthly Board meetings and special meetings as necessary

Highly Desirable
  • Resident of Leisure World of Maryland
  • Proven leadership ability
  • Previous Management Experience
  • Diversity, including but not limited to gender, ethnicity, race, age, disabilities and geography
  • Previous experience serving on boards (either for-profit or nonprofit);
  • Experience in the Information Technology Industry
  • Experience with a Non-Profit 501(c)(3) Organization
  • Knowledge and experience regarding nonprofit and volunteer organizations
  • Specific skills such as finance, audit, legal, international, information technology, diversity awareness, governmental affairs, public relations, marketing, leadership development
  • Critical Thinker
  • Experience with Risk Management
