You can help by Volunteering to be a Monitor

Are You Frustrated by Technology and Want to Do Something About It?
By: John Feldmann
Jessie Reynolds Fitzpatrick

Consider becoming a monitor at the Leisure World Computer Learning Center. As a monitor, you will need very little technical skills. Do you have basic computer skills? Are you willing to learn new things? Are you flexible, a team player and have a strong desire to help others? If so, we want to hear from you. The Leisure World Computer Center  Inc., Board of Directors would love to keep the center open 12 hours a day, seven days per week to accommodate the Leisure World community.

In order to do this, the center needs additional volunteers to serve as monitors to help keep the doors open during these hours. Whenever the center is open, there must be an available monitor on duty. The Learning Center operates six two-hour shifts per day.
Monitors are especially needed for evenings and weekend shifts.

Special Benefits
If you become and remain an active monitor your benefits can become boundless.

  • For example, you will receive one on one orientation on how to serve as a monitor.
  • You will receive free computer training. You will have ready access to the Computer Learning Center seven days per week between the hours of 8:30 AM - 8:30 PM. In addition, you will increase your knowledge of computer software applications; be offered free technical support for your personal computer (subject to availability of CLC experts and volunteers); be allowed to take the "for fee" based technical training classes at no cost to you.
  • Free Training If you volunteer at least 2 hours per month you will receive one free class per quarter.
  • If you volunteer 4 hours per month you will receive two free classes or one free course per quarter.
  • For 6 hours or more per month of volunteer time, you will receive unlimited training.
  • Anyone who recruits a new monitor will receive two free classes or one free course.
  • All Active Monitors will be invited to an annual Monitors meeting given by the LW Computer Center Inc., Board of Directors. At the meeting, you will be given useful information about the computer center that will be helpful to you as a monitor.
  • Refreshments and door prizes will be provided for you as well.
  • Occasionally special awards will be given to monitors who have gone above and beyond what is expected or required of them.
